One of my favourite times of year is when our apple trees bloom. The aroma, the tender splashes of pink, the buzz of bees, the whole tree humming, the promise of fruit in its time.
Often in life, we are just looking for the fruit. We go to the tree, expecting to see it now. But maybe all we see is the beginning, the bud. Should we then be mad at the tree for not producing fruit out of season? Or, possibly, we can take joy in seeing the beauty of the beginnings of fruit to come.
Something I love about this painting, and that I never noticed before, is that the little gaps between the petals perfectly mirror the seed capsules when you cut an apple in half. A little glimpse of what's to come.
The prompt for today is "bud."
